Content and working formats

During the week we want to find intersections between financing, participation and environmental protection within the planning and implementation of community renewable energy projects. We dive into different disciplines, using different working formats and with insights from experts from science and practice.

We are looking forward to answer some of the following questions: What are the intersections between financing, citizen participation and environmental protection in the planning and construction of renewable energy plants? How and why can and should citizens participate in the financing of the energy transition? What role does biodiversity play in the planning of renewable energy plants? What are the international framework conditions and how can further control mechanisms be created?

Mix of working formats

In order to meet the different questions and interests of the participants we will use a mix of different formats. Working formats include:

  • Keynote
In an impulse lecture Hans-Joseph Fell – one of the founders of the EEG – will inspire and motivate us for an inspiring week.
  • Panel discussion
Experts from different areas of science and society will discuss intersections of financing, participation and environmental protection from different angels. All participants will have the opportunity to feed into the discussion and to raise own questions.
  • Parallel Workshops
Since interests are distributed differently and some matters are better discussed and worked on in smaller groups, we will split up for part of the day in parallel groups of 5-15 persons, working on different topics.
  • Your Session
Some of the slots for parallel sessions are still open so you can bring in your own topic and organize a session. For more information see “Application and open slots”
  • Plenary sessions
For some sessions all of the perspectives of the group’s are needed and for sharing results of the parallel session’s we come together in plenary sessions.
  • Hands-on workshop
Read more about the planned hands-on workshop in the next paragraph.

Working on and with a solar PV plant

Theory is nice but who of you has hands-on experiences with renewable energy production plants? Within the summer school you will get the opportunity to set up a mobile solar plant. We will carry out all kinds of fun measurements during this hands-on workshop! Here you can see what it needs to generate solar energy and experience the impact or panel direction, shading and other fun tests.

Evening events

Almost as important as the intensive sessions during the day are the activities during the evening. This will bring us even closer together. Lüneburg offers a great variety of restaurants and activities and has the advantage of short distances between locations. We are looking forward to a great variety of evening events, including:

  • joint stay at the “Biergarten” (beer garden)
  • guided city walk through Lüneburg
  • pub crawl
  • board game night
  • arthouse cinema
  • ...

Joint product

In the end it is nice when we not only share a great time and bring home new knowledge and great inspiration for our research, but also create some joint product during our week in Lüneburg. Right now we are working on a concept for short videoclips about financing, participation and environmental protection in community renewable energy projects that we could create during the summer school In addition, we plan to come up with a policy statement drafting politic recommendation.
